North Azul is a hard hike of about 7.5 miles in the Pecos Wilderness, part of the Pecos-Las Vegas Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest in northern New Mexico. It's an out-and-back route with a total climb of about 1,830 feet, taking you from a low point of roughly 9,960 feet to a high of about 11,700 feet. The trail is natural-surface and allows horses, which makes it a good fit for riding as well as hiking. Bikes are not allowed. Several other routes sit close by. Skyline is just 0.2 miles away and Rito Azul is under a mile off, with Chimayosos at about a mile. For an overnight stay, Borrego Mesa campground lies roughly 7.7 miles away.
