Windy Peak is a climbing area in the Rainbow Mountain Wilderness of Nevada, on Bureau of Land Management land within the Red Rock/Sloan Field Office. It sits at the center of a cluster of climbing areas, with the South Face just 0.1 mile away and the East Face about 0.4 mile off. The Windy Canyon Boulders and FIsh Head lie roughly half a mile away, giving climbers a range of options within a short distance. The area is best suited to traditional climbers. Five routes are listed, all rated between 5.7 and 5.10+. Midsummer Night Scheme is the easiest at 5.7, and Lil' Sumpin' is the hardest at 5.10+. The typical climbing season runs from late spring into fall, when typical averages from a nearby weather station run from highs around 80°F in May to about 75°F in October. That station sits about 1,560 feet lower than the peak, so temperatures up high run cooler. Nearby hikers can take the Descent Black Velvet Peak route or the Old Spanish Trail, both within about a mile and a half. For an overnight stay, Red Rock Canyon Campground is roughly 9 miles away.
