Southeast Buttress is a climbing area in Nevada's Rainbow Mountain Wilderness, within the Red Rock/Sloan Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management. It sits inside a cluster of named climbing areas, with Mescalito and East Face both about 0.1 mile away and North Face at the same distance. The area has five trad routes, with grades ranging from 5.6 to 5.10d. Cat in the Hat is the easiest at 5.6, and Rabbit's Arete is the hardest at 5.10d. Cat in the Phat was named on January 4, 2006, and Bed of Nails was first climbed by B. Bindner and E. Holland many years ago. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Red Rock Canyon show October highs around 75°F with lows near 50°F, while July averages about 95°F. The station sits a few hundred feet lower than the summit, so temperatures on the ridge run slightly cooler. Pine Creek Trail is 0.5 mile away and Dale's Trail is 0.8 mile away for a walk off the rocks. Red Rock Canyon Campground is about 6 miles away for an overnight stay.
