Ice Box Canyon Bouldering is a bouldering area in Nevada's Rainbow Mountain Wilderness, managed by the Bureau of Land Management's Red Rock/Sloan Field Office. It sits within the wilderness, about 0.1 mile from the Sunnyside Crags, Smears for Fears Area and Frigid Air Buttress, which makes it easy to pair with other climbing in the same corner of the canyon. The bouldering here is all on the same scale, with eight routes ranging from V0-1 to V11. The easiest are Breaking the Ice and Episode One, and the hardest is We Need Ice at V11. The Force is with You and Wake me up when September ends sit in the V2 range. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show April highs around 70°F and October highs around 75°F, while July and August average in the mid-90s. That station sits about 700 feet lower than the canyon, so temperatures up high run cooler. The Ice Box Canyon hike starts about 0.7 mile away, and Red Rock Canyon Campground is about 6 miles off for an overnight stay.
