Frigid Air Buttress is a climbing area in Nevada's Rainbow Mountain Wilderness, on Bureau of Land Management land within the Red Rock/Sloan Field Office. It sits among several other climbing areas, including Necromancer Wall, Smears for Fears Area and Sunnyside Crags, all about a tenth of a mile away. The area has seven trad routes, with grades ranging from 5.7 to 5.10. Among them are Blue Bunny at 5.7, Burlesque at 5.9, and Dear Diary at 5.10, which was first ascended in 2007. The buttress itself is a route of about 5.9+, and Linda's Route is a 5.9+ also. All of them are traditional climbs. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. At a nearby weather station, typical averages run from highs around 70°F and lows near 47°F in April to highs around 75°F and lows near 50°F in October, while July and August typically reach the mid-90s. The station sits about 786 feet below the buttress, so temperatures up high run cooler. Nearby, the Ice Box Canyon hike is about half a mile away, and the Lost Creek Trail is about a mile off. For camping, Red Rock Canyon Campground is about 6 miles away.
