Ginger Buttress is a climbing area in Nevada's Rainbow Mountain Wilderness, managed by the Bureau of Land Management through the Red Rock/Sloan Field Office. The surrounding land is wilderness, and the closest named town is Red Rock, about 3.5 miles away. The climbing here is mostly traditional, with 18 trad routes and one sport route among the 19 listed. Grades run from 5.8- up to 5.11c, with the median at 5.10. Notable routes include Ginger Cracks (5.9, trad, first ascent by Mark Moore, Lars Holbek and Dave Anderson in 1977) and Somewhere Over the Rainbow (5.11c, trad, first ascent by Roxanna Brock and Gary Fike). The most comfortable climbing weather typically comes in spring and fall. At a nearby weather station, typical average highs are about 70°F in April and 75°F in October. That station sits roughly 1,500 feet lower than the buttress, so temperatures on the rock run cooler. Other climbing areas sit right beside Ginger Buttress. Cloud Tower is 0.1 mile away, Juniper Canyon and Jackrabbit Buttress are each about 0.2 mile away, and Aquarium Wall is about 0.3 mile away.
