Rainbow Mountain - East Face is a climbing area in the Rainbow Mountain Wilderness, part of the Bureau of Land Management's Red Rock/Sloan Field Office in Nevada. It lies within designated wilderness, and the surrounding land is managed by the BLM. The area is part of a cluster of climbing and hiking in the canyon country just outside the Red Rock Canyon area. The Friar and Byrd Pinnacle is just 0.2 miles away, and Solar Slab - Lower Tier and Solar Slab - Upper Tier are each about 0.3 miles off. Oak Creek Canyon Boulders is also within about a third of a mile. Nine routes are listed in the area, and they range from trad at 5.8 to 5.11b, with a median of about 5.10b/c. The Growler is a 5.9+ trad route, and Beelzebub is a 5.11b trad route. One sport route, B'east Face, is listed at 5.10c. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run to highs around 70°F in April and 75°F in October, while July and August average about 94 to 95°F. That station sits roughly 1,000 feet lower than the wilderness, so expect cooler temperatures up high. Red Rock Canyon Campground is about 6 miles away for an overnight base.
