Tom's Canyon Trail is a hard hike in Nevada's Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, on the Austin-Tonopah Ranger District. It is a long, steep out-and-back, with a total length of about 14 miles and an elevation gain of about 2,470 feet, carrying you from a low point of about 6,750 feet to a high of about 9,360 feet. The trailhead is called Toms Canyon Trailhead, and the Forest Service manages the land. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows horses, but not bikes, according to Forest Service records. The open season runs from about June 15 to October 30, so plan to go in summer or early fall. Peavine Canyon and Pablo Canyon are both within a few miles, as is Horse Canyon Res. For an overnight, Peavine Creek Campground sits about 4.5 miles away.
