Original Showgirl is a 5.8-mile out-and-back hike in Nevada's Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, part of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The trail rises from about 8,078 feet to a high point of 8,101 feet, with a total elevation gain of 1,732 feet over the round trip. The steepest stretch comes at about 2 miles in, where the grade reaches 21 percent. The route is rated moderate and is open year-round. It's a natural-surface trail, and both horses and bikes are allowed. The trip takes about 3 hours. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Mt Charleston, which sits about 640 feet lower, show July highs near 79°F with lows around 52°F. Winter is cold, with January highs around 44°F and lows near 22°F. The Upper Showgirl mountain biking trail and the Hike-A-Bike route are both within half a mile. The Equestrian Switchback Trail is about 0.5 miles away, and the Robber's Roost climbing area is about 1.1 miles off.
