Bear Canyon is a bouldering area in Montana, about 4 miles from the town of Chestnut. It sits close to the Moonshine hike and the New World Gulch ski touring route, both about 0.2 miles away, and the Boundary Line Fin and Lower Bear Canyon climbing areas are each about a mile off. The climbing here is all bouldering, with three routes listed. Whisky in the Morning is the easiest at V0, Big Shooter is V2+, and More Than a Carpenter is V4. The grades are typical for the area's bouldering. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Bozeman show July highs around 82°F with lows near 52°F, and snow is common from November through April. That station sits about 900 feet lower than the canyon, so temperatures up high run cooler.
