Iron Mountain is a hard hike in the Plains/Thompson Falls Ranger District of Lolo National Forest in western Montana, about 2 miles from the small community of Quinns. The trail is an out-and-back that climbs from a low point of about 2,900 feet to a high of about 6,160 feet, with a total elevation gain of roughly 2,550 feet over a round trip of about 8.8 miles. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows bikes, so riders can take it as well as hikers. The Forest Service manages the land. Cascade Campground/Trhd sits just 0.3 miles away, making it the closest place to camp. Fourteen Mile Creek and Donlan Saddle are both within about 5 miles, and Thompson Peak Lookout Tower is about 9 miles off.
