Big Lake is an easy hike of about 1.6 miles in the Rattlesnake Wilderness, part of the Missoula Ranger District of Lolo National Forest in western Montana. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is a short out-and-back with a one-way climb of about 525 feet, from a low point of roughly 6,400 feet to a high of about 6,940 feet. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows horses, so it works well for riders. Bikes are not permitted. Worden Lake sits just 0.1 mile away, and the Sheridan Lake Trail is about 0.6 mile off. Twin Lakes and Glacier Lake are both within about 2 miles.
