Pond View is a short, flat cross-country ski outing in Massachusetts, about 1.5 miles from Carlisle. The route is an out-and-back of roughly 0.3 miles, with almost no elevation change. The highest point is about 171 feet, and the climb and descent each add and subtract about 10 feet. That makes it an easy, low-commitment ski to fit into a longer day of exploring the surrounding area. Winter is the natural season for this kind of outing. Typical averages from the nearby Bedford weather station run from highs around 36°F and lows near 18°F in January to highs in the upper 30s in February. Snow days are common in the dead of winter, with about 8 in January and 7 in February, before the snow eases to about 2 days in April. Spring brings more frequent rain, and by May the snow is gone. Several other ski routes sit just a tenth of a mile away, including Pine Point Loop, Corn Cob and Erickson Loop. Climbers can find Chelmsford Lime Quarry about 3 miles off, and paddlers can head to the Shawsheen River, roughly 6 miles away.
