Foundation Run is a short, easy singletrack mountain biking route on the Loch Raven Reservoir in Maryland, about 0.76 miles long with a one-way elevation gain of 28 feet. It's a green circle trail, so riders can loop it and return on the same path. The trail is a gentle, flowing ride through typical Mid-Atlantic forest, designed for beginners to build fundamental mountain biking skills. Its out-and-back format lets riders practice in both directions, and the manageable singletrack avoids overwhelming technical challenges. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to ride. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Cylburn put May highs around 73°F and October highs around 66°F. Summer runs hotter, with July highs near 86°F. Dogs are allowed as long as they are leashed. The Backyard and Merryman's Mill are both about 2 miles away.
