Big Gunpowder Falls - Hereford Area is a climbing area in Maryland, about a mile from the community of Stockton Woods. It is a compact spot with six routes, split evenly between bouldering and traditional climbing, and it works well as a short outing close to town. The climbing here runs from about 5.6 to 5.10 on the YDS scale, with the bouldering sitting in the V4 to V4-5 range. Three of the routes are traditional, and three are boulders. Among the named routes are V Reel Theorm at 5.6, Pocket Poser at 5.7+, and Snacks and Sunshine at 5.10, which was first climbed by Alex Hill, Alex Wodarczk and Jim Borton in March 2019. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Cylburn run from highs around 66°F in April to 77°F in September, while July highs average about 86°F. The Torrey C. Brown Rail Trail and the Torrey C. Brown Trail for mountain biking are both about 2 miles away. Gunpowder Falls offers river fishing about 2.5 miles off, and the Overlook climbing area is roughly 6 miles away.
