Baxter Peak Cutoff Trail is a short, easy hike in Baxter State Park, part of the Appalachian Trail corridor in Maine. It is a point-to-point route of about 0.9 miles, with a total elevation gain of about 97 feet. The trail lies within the Appalachian National Scenic Trail and is managed by State Park and Recreation. The climb is gentle, with the steepest stretch at about 0.8 miles in, where the grade reaches about 8 percent. The trail starts at roughly 4,619 feet and ends at about 4,687 feet, so it works well as a quick connector between other routes in the area. The Abol Slide Trail begins just 0.1 mile away, and the Knife Edge Trail and Saddle Trail are each about 0.8 mile off. Climbers can find the Chimney Pond ("South") Basin - Summer Rock Routes about 1.6 miles away.
