West Pine is a hard hike of about 12 miles on the Palisades Ranger District of Caribou-Targhee National Forest in Idaho, managed by the Forest Service. The route is an out-and-back, rising about 2,300 feet from a low point near 5,900 feet to a high of about 8,260 feet. The trail is natural-surface and allows horses and bikes, according to Forest Service records. It is a long, steep climb, so plan for a full day. Several other destinations sit close by. Poison Creek is less than a mile away and Liars Pass about a mile. North Pine and Fleming Canyon are each a little over a mile off. Pine Creek Campground, about 5 miles away, offers a place to stay.
