Old Sheep is a moderate out-and-back hike in Idaho's Caribou-Targhee National Forest, within the Teton Basin Ranger District. The trail is about 3.9 miles long, with a one-way elevation gain of 722 feet, taking you from a low point of about 6,234 feet to a high of about 7,065 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trailhead is at Old Sheep Corral, which is open year-round. The route is natural-surfaced and allows both horses and bikes, so it works for riders and pack animals as well as hikers. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Driggs, which sits about 945 feet lower than the trail, show July highs around 83°F with lows near 48°F, while winter highs stay in the low 30s. Several other hikes lie close by. Little Pine (Spooky) is about 0.6 miles away, Tie Canyon is about a mile off, and Pine Creek Campground is about 2 miles away. North Pine is about 1.5 miles from the trail.
