Upper Yellowjacket Cr. is an easy out-and-back hike in Idaho's Salmon-Cobalt Ranger District of the Salmon-Challis National Forest, about 5 miles long with an elevation gain of 854 feet. The trail starts at a low point of 7,846 feet and climbs to a high of 8,666 feet, and it is open year-round. The route is natural-surfaced and allows horses, so riders can take it as well as hikers. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is listed as open season all year. For more time on foot, Golden Trout Lake lies about 1.8 miles away and Hoodoo Meadows about 2.1 miles. Yellowjacket Guard Station, a campground, is roughly 6.8 miles off, and paddlers can head to Yellowjacket Creek, about 7 miles away.
