Elkhorn is a moderate hike in Idaho's Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness, on the North Fork Ranger District of the Salmon-Challis National Forest. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is a natural-surface out-and-back that starts at about 6,827 feet and climbs to about 6,834 feet, with a total round-trip gain of about 5,173 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.75 miles in, with a grade of about 40 percent. Horses are allowed, but bikes are not. The route is rated moderate, and the climb is steep enough to make it a serious outing rather than a casual walk. For more time on foot, Corral Flat - Sage Brush is about 1.2 miles away and Rancherio about 2.1 miles. Garden Creek - Horse Heaven Spur 1 is about 3.7 miles off, and Ebenezer Campground, about 4.3 miles away, offers a place to camp.
