Upper Yellowjacket Cr. is a hard hike in the Salmon-Cobalt Ranger District of Idaho's Salmon-Challis National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The trail runs out and back, covering about 17 miles with roughly 1,700 feet of elevation gain, from a low of about 6,265 feet to a high of about 7,960 feet. The route is natural-surfaced, and horses are allowed, so it works for riders as well as hikers. Yellowjacket Guard Station campground sits less than a mile away, and Beagle Creek is about half a mile off. Hoodoo Creek and Yellowjacket Creek lie within a few miles, and McDonald Flat Campground is about 9 miles away.
