Newman Creek is an easy out-and-back hike in Idaho's Sawtooth National Forest, within the Ketchum Ranger District. The trail is about 4 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 982 feet, and it starts at roughly 6,785 feet, rising to a high point of about 7,508 feet. The climb is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch around 1.5 miles in, where the grade reaches about 14 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Ketchum show July highs around 80°F with lows near 45°F, and the station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the route run cooler. Winter is cold and snowy, with January highs near 31°F and about nine snow days. The hike takes about two hours. Baker Creek is about 1.2 miles away, and Easley Gulch Aka Curlies and the Silver Creek Loop are each about 1.4 miles off. For an overnight stay, Wood River Campground is about 5.5 miles away.
