East Fork Baker Creek is an expert-level out-and-back hike in the Ketchum Ranger District of Idaho's Sawtooth National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The route is about 17.6 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 4,286 feet, and it starts at roughly 6,959 feet. The climb is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch at about 3 miles in, where the grade reaches 27%, and the high point is 8,618 feet. The hike is a serious commitment. The one-way gain is 2,973 feet, and the round trip adds up to about 4,300 feet of climbing. The trail is best suited for experienced hikers who are prepared for a long day on foot. Alden Gulch lies just 0.2 miles away, and Baker Creek, a canoeing spot, is about 0.9 miles off. Newman Creek is 1.6 miles away, and Wood River Campground is about 6.4 miles away for an overnight base.
