Alden Gulch is a hard hike in Idaho's Sawtooth National Forest, within the Ketchum Ranger District. The trail is an out-and-back that climbs from about 7,000 feet to roughly 8,760 feet, with a total elevation gain of 1,793 feet over 5.7 miles. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is open year-round. The route is natural-surface and allows both horses and bikes, so it works for riders and pack animals as well as hikers. The climb is a steady one, and the high point sits well above the low point of 6,968 feet. The East Fork Baker Creek hike starts just 0.2 miles away, and Baker Creek, a canoeing spot, is 0.8 miles off. Newman Creek is 1.8 miles away, and the Alden Gulch Trail #144 mountain biking route is 2.4 miles away.
