McCalla Creek is a hard hike in Idaho's Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness, on the Krassel Ranger District of the Payette National Forest. The nearest town is Fourway Junction, about 7 miles away. The trail is an out-and-back that starts and ends at roughly 7,690 feet, with a total climb of about 10,000 feet over the course of the round trip. The steepest stretch comes at about 4 miles in, where the grade reaches 17%. The trail is on natural surface, and horses are allowed. Bikes are not. The Forest Service manages the land. For a shorter outing, Rock Rabbit and Lower Lodgepole are both within about 2 miles. Chamberlain Basin campground sits about 6 miles away, and Chamberlain Creek offers canoeing about 9 miles out.
