Estep is a 7.6-mile out-and-back hike in Idaho's Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness, within the Krassel Ranger District of Payette National Forest. The Forest Service manages the land. The trail climbs from about 5,250 feet to roughly 8,240 feet, a 2,723-foot gain, and is rated expert. It is a natural-surface route, and horses are allowed. The trail is open year-round. It is not accessible. Bikes are not allowed. For a full-day outing, the high point of 8,240 feet makes this a serious objective. The surrounding wilderness adds to the sense of isolation, and the trail's length and climb suit an experienced hiker. Nearby, Center Mountain is about 1.3 miles away and Ramey Ridge about 1.5 miles. MAYHAN CUTOFF and Big Creek are both within about 3 miles.
