Lick Creek is a moderate out-and-back hike of about 5 miles in the Salmon-Cobalt Ranger District of Idaho's Salmon-Challis National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The trail climbs roughly 1,850 feet from a low point of about 5,487 feet to a high of about 7,339 feet. Bikes and horses are both allowed on the natural-surface trail, so it works well for riders and pack animals as well as hikers. The closest neighbors are Indian Creek, about 1.4 miles away, and Dead Horse, about 1.6 miles away, with Big Deer Creek at about 3 miles and Fritzer Gulch at about 5 miles.
