Dry Canyon is a hard hike in Idaho's Caribou-Targhee National Forest, on the Palisades Ranger District. The trail is an out-and-back that climbs from about 6,658 feet to 9,327 feet, a total gain of 2,672 feet over roughly 7.8 miles. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is open year-round. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows both horses and bikes, so it works for riders and pack animals as well as hikers. The climb is steep, and the high point at 9,327 feet makes this a serious outing rather than a short day on the trail. Vacation Canyon Trail and Waterfall both sit within a quarter mile of the route, and Upper Lake Bench and Upper Lake Trail are a little over a mile away. For an overnight base, Palisades Creek campground is about 5.7 miles off.
