Upper Palisades Creek is a 6-mile out-and-back hike in Idaho's Caribou-Targhee National Forest, within the Palisades Ranger District. The trail rises about 310 feet from a low point of 6,258 feet to a high of 6,625 feet, and it is rated hard. The route is on natural surface, and it is open to both horses and bikes. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is open year-round. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Swan Valley show July highs around 85°F with lows near 46°F, while winter highs stay in the 30s. That station sits roughly 1,200 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the route run cooler. The Upper Lake Trail starts just 0.1 mile away, and Upper Lake Bench is about half a mile off. Dry Canyon and Lake Canyon are each roughly 1.7 miles away.
