Antelope is a hard hike in Idaho's Boise National Forest, on the Emmett Ranger District. The route is an out-and-back of about 7.5 miles, with a total elevation gain of 1,979 feet, taking you from a low point of about 4,890 feet to a high of about 6,924 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is open year-round. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows both horses and bikes, so it works for riders and pack animals as well as hikers. That makes it a flexible option for a longer trip or a multi-day outing. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Deadwood Lodge, which sits about 1,000 feet lower, show July highs around 82°F with lows near 40°F. That station's figures are a rough guide, and temperatures on the trail run cooler. Gabe's Peak and Renwyck are both within about 2 miles, and Antelope Campground is about 4 miles away. Sagehen Creek campground is a little farther, at about 4.4 miles.
