Whittemore Trail is a short, easy hike in Connecticut, about 0.7 miles long and rising roughly 90 feet from its low point of 541 feet to a high of 643 feet. The climb is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch at about 0.36 miles in, where the grade reaches 8 percent. The trail ends at a high point before it descends, and the total loss over the course of the route is about 226 feet. The nearest town is Straitsville, about 1.2 miles away. The trip takes about half an hour, so it works well as a quick outing or a link between other trails in the area. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Mt Carmel show May highs around 71°F and September highs around 76°F, with July the warmest month at about 85°F. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the higher ground run cooler. The Naugatuck Trail and Van Epps Trail both start about 0.3 miles away, and Tibby's Trail is about 0.6 miles off. For climbing, CT Bouldering is about 2.7 miles away.
