White Birches Trail is an easy 0.48-mile hike in Connecticut, about 1.7 miles from the town of Straitsville. The trail is a short, low-elevation outing, climbing 221 feet from a low point of 407 feet to a high of 551 feet. The steepest section comes at about 0.23 miles into the route, with a grade of 14 percent. Late spring and early fall tend to be the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from the nearby Mt Carmel weather station show May highs around 71°F and September highs around 76°F, while July peaks near 85°F. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the higher ground run a bit cooler. Several other short hikes sit within a third of a mile, including Grobe Green Gadabout Trail, Tibby's Trail and Beaver Trail. For climbers, CT Bouldering is about 3.2 miles away.
