The Naugatuck Trail is a 5.25-mile moderate hike in Connecticut, about a mile from the town of Straitsville. It is a point-to-point route, and the climb totals 840 feet of elevation gain over the course of the trip, with the high point at 767 feet and the low at 170 feet. The trail is not a loop, so plan on a round trip of about 10.5 miles. The route is rated moderate, and the trip is estimated to take about two hours. Bikes and horses are not allowed. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Mt Carmel run to highs around 71°F in May and 76°F in September, with July the warmest month at about 85°F. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the higher ground run cooler. Several other trails start close by, including Van Epps Trail at 0.1 mile and Whittemore Trail at 0.3 mile. Climbers can head to CT Bouldering, about 3 miles away, and Hop Brook Lake Recreation Area offers camping roughly 4.5 miles off.
