King Lake is a moderate hike of about 4.5 miles in a loop on the Boulder Ranger District of the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests in Colorado, managed by the Forest Service. The trail starts at roughly 9,600 feet and climbs to about 11,665 feet, with a total gain of 1,486 feet. The route is on natural surface, and horses are allowed. That makes it a practical choice for riders as well as hikers. The Devils Thumb and Devils Thumb Bypass hikes sit right next to the loop, and the Eldora climbing area is about 0.6 miles away. For an overnight stay, Rainbow Lakes Campground is about 4.8 miles off.
