Hourglass is a hard out-and-back hike in Colorado's Comanche Peak Wilderness, within the Canyon Lakes Ranger District of the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests. The trail runs about 10 miles one way, with a total elevation gain of about 2,500 feet, from a low point of roughly 9,400 feet to a high of about 11,970 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is on natural surface. Horses are allowed, but bikes are not. The trip is open year-round, and the surrounding wilderness makes it a destination for a full day on foot. Comanche Lake and Surprise Pond Trail both lie within a couple of miles, and Jacks Gulch Campground is about 7 miles away for an overnight stay.
