Mr Magoo Boulder is a bouldering area within Castle Rock State Park in California, managed by State Park and Recreation. It sits among a cluster of climbing spots, with Mrs Magoo Boulder, The Beak and Dog Dish Boulders all about 0.1 mile away. The Castle Rock Trail starts just as close, making it easy to pair a hike with a session on the rock. The bouldering here runs the full range from V0- to V11, with 25 routes in total. The easiest are Roof Problem at V0- and Mantle at V1, while Magoo Slap is a V5 and Bates Eliminate (Sit) is the hardest at V11. The V scale is the grading system used for these boulders. Summer is the driest and warmest stretch. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July and August highs around 81°F with only about one wet day a month, while winter brings highs in the mid-50s and rain on roughly 14 days a month. That station sits about 900 feet lower than the boulders, so temperatures on the rock run cooler.
