The Spoon is a bouldering area in Castle Rock State Park in California, managed by State Park and Recreation. It sits within the park's climbing network, with several other named climbing areas and the Castle Rock Trail lying about 0.1 mile away. The area's five routes are all boulders, ranging from V1-2 to V4. The Spoon, the area's namesake, starts at V1-2, and Spoon Face is the hardest at V4. The grades are typical for bouldering at this level of the park, and the routes make an easy addition to a visit that includes the surrounding Castle Rock Proper or The Beak. Summer is the driest stretch, with typical averages from a nearby weather station running from highs around 81°F in July and August to lows near 58°F. That station sits well below the park, so temperatures up high run cooler. Winter brings more frequent rain, with about 14 wet days a month from December through February.
