Bogus Basin is a short, easy mountain biking ride of about half a mile, with an elevation gain of 172 feet, on the Truckee Ranger District of Tahoe National Forest in California. The route is an out-and-back that starts and ends at the Royal Gorge, with the high point at 7,219 feet. Summer is the most comfortable time to ride. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July highs around 82°F and lows near 44°F, and the route sits roughly 1,300 feet above that station, so temperatures on the basin run cooler. Rowton Peak Trail lies just 0.1 mile away, and the Tiny Tim mountain biking route is 0.2 mile off. Climbers can head to Power Line Boulder, about 1.4 miles away, and Milton Reservoir offers lake fishing about 2.4 miles from the basin.
