Rocky Rest is a Forest Service campground in the Yuba River Ranger District of Tahoe National Forest in California, about 0.3 miles from Indian Valley campground. The closest town is Downieville, roughly 9 miles away, and the land is managed by the Forest Service. The site has vault toilets, and a fee is charged. The facilities are simple, so plan on bringing supplies for a basic stay. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from the nearby Downieville weather station show May highs around 72°F and October highs around 72°F, while July and August average about 89°F. Other campgrounds close by include Fiddle Creek, about a mile away, and Cal Ida Campground, about 1.2 miles away. Hikers can reach the Fiddle Creek Ridge Trail at a similar distance, and paddlers will find Oregon Creek about 4 miles off.
