Carlton Flat Campground sits along the North Yuba River on Hwy 49 in the Yuba River Ranger District of Tahoe National Forest in California. The Forest Service manages the land, and the campground offers 17 campsites with vault toilets and piped water. Pine and oak trees surround the site, and the North Yuba Trail passes through the area. Late spring and early fall tend to be the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from the nearby Downieville weather station show May highs around 72°F and October highs around 72°F, while July and August climb to about 89°F. Nearby, Cal Ida Campground is just 0.2 miles away, and the Fiddle Creek Ridge Trail and Fiddle Creek Campground are each about 0.3 miles off. Indian Valley Campground is about a mile away.
