Deer Tower South Loop is a 4.1-mile loop hike in the Buffalo Ranger District of Arkansas's Ozark-St. Francis National Forest. The trail rises from about 1,276 feet to a high point of 1,368 feet, with the steepest stretch at about 2.4 miles into the route, where the grade reaches 31 percent. The climb totals 916 feet, and the route is rated moderate. The trail is a natural-surface loop that allows both bikes and horses. It is managed by the Forest Service and is open year-round, so it can be done at any time of the year. For comfortable conditions, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Deer, Arkansas, run from highs around 70°F in May to about 75°F in September, while winter highs sit in the low 40s.
