Stupa Crag

Stupa Crag is a climbing area in the Red Rock Ranger District of Coconino National Forest in Arizona, managed by the Forest Service. It sits within a cluster of trails and climbing spots around Sedona, and its closest neighbors include the Lower Chimney Rock #165A hike and the West Sedona climbing area, both within a quarter mile. The crag has six routes, five of them sport climbs with the highest grade at 5.10, and one trad route, Slightly Stoopid aka Stupa Spire, which is 5.10. The sport routes run from 5.7 up, with Dark Magic, Magic Cactus and Magic Staircase all at 5.7. The trad route was first climbed in March 2020 by Nolan Burman and Derek Field. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from the nearby Sedona weather station show October highs around 79°F and April highs around 75°F, while June and July average in the mid-90s. That station sits about 566 feet lower than the crag, so temperatures on the crag run a little cooler. For an overnight stay, Chavez Crossing and Crescent Moon Ramada are both within about 3 miles. Paddlers can reach Oak Creek, roughly 6.6 miles away.
