Mt. Chaktar is a climbing area in the Douglas Ranger District of Coronado National Forest in Arizona, managed by the Forest Service. It sits among a cluster of other climbing spots, with Sheepshead Area (Southwest) and The Muttonhead both about 0.2 miles away. The area has five trad routes, all rated between 5.9 and 5.11-. The easiest is We Expect You at 5.9, and the hardest is The Royal Scam at 5.11-. The median grade is 5.10a/b. The routes are named for their first ascents, including Courage of the Fearless Crew and Ghosts of the Past. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to climb. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Kartchner Caverns show April highs around 75°F and October highs around 78°F, while June and July average in the low to mid 90s. That station sits about 1,600 feet lower than the area, so temperatures here run cooler. Nearby, Smith Hill Trail and Slavin Gulch are hikes within about 2 miles.
