Middlemarch Canyon is a hard hike of about 4.9 miles on the Douglas Ranger District of Coronado National Forest in Arizona, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is an out-and-back with a one-way climb of about 683 feet, from a low point of about 5,143 feet to a high of about 5,856 feet. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Sunsites, about 7.5 miles away, show April highs near 78°F and October highs near 80°F, while July and August average highs in the low 90s and bring the most wet days of the year. The trail is natural-surface and bikes are allowed. It is not an accessible route. Climbers will find the Cochise Trail Boulders and Cochise Stronghold campground about half a mile away. The Sky Islands Traverse hike and Shaw House campground are each within about a mile and a half.
