John Doe Wall is a climbing area in the West Clear Creek Wilderness, part of the Mogollon Rim Ranger District of Coconino National Forest in Arizona. The Forest Service manages the land, and the area sits within designated wilderness, so it is a destination for climbers heading into backcountry terrain. The climbing here is all trad, with five routes ranging from about 5.9 up to 5.12. Dirty McNasty's is the easiest at 5.9, and Frenching Shiela is the hardest at 5.12. Bob and Jane Doe sit around 5.10, with Barefoot Fred a bit higher at 5.10c/d. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to climb. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run from highs around 70°F and lows near 38°F in May to highs in the mid-60s and lows in the low 30s in October. The station sits a few hundred feet lower than the wall, so temperatures on the rock may run slightly cooler. Several other climbing areas lie right beside it, including the Middle Section and the Log Jam area, both about 0.1 mile away. The Tramway and Maxwell hikes are close by as well.
