Hawes Trail is a short, out-and-back mountain biking route in the Mesa Ranger District of Tonto National Forest in Arizona, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is about 1.2 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 180 feet, and it is rated hard. The climb is steepest around the middle of the route, with a 14% grade at about 0.5 miles in. The most comfortable months for a ride are typically November and March, when typical averages from a nearby weather station at E Mesa run from highs of 77°F to 94°F and lows in the upper 40s. That station sits about 400 feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the route run a little cooler. Saddle Trail and the Saddle hike both lie about 0.2 miles away, and Red Mountain is about 0.4 miles off. For an overnight stay, Larry Forbis campground is roughly 6.8 miles away.
