Hawes Trail is a hard mountain biking route in Arizona's Tonto National Forest, within the Mesa Ranger District. It is a short out-and-back, about 2.6 miles long, with a total climb of 468 feet from a low point at 1,558 feet to a high of 1,820 feet. The steepest section comes around the 0.9-mile mark, with a grade of about 13 percent. The Forest Service manages the land. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to ride. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at E Mesa show March highs around 77°F and November highs around 77°F, while July and August average in the mid-100s. The Saguaro Trail starts just 0.1 mile away, and the Ridge Trail and Red Mountain are each about 0.3 mile off. For a longer stay, Larry Forbis campground is about 7 miles away.
