Sutherland is a hard hike in Arizona's Coronado National Forest, within the Santa Catalina Ranger District. The route is an out-and-back of about 7 miles, with a total elevation gain of about 3,100 feet, taking you from a low point of roughly 4,840 feet to a high of about 8,020 feet. The trail is on natural surface and is open to both horses and bikes. It is not an accessible trail, according to the Forest Service's accessibility status. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Mt Lemmon Willow Canyon, which sits about 1,000 feet lower than the high point, show May highs around 71°F and October highs around 68°F, with lows near 50°F. That station's July and August highs run about 80°F. The Baby Jesus Trail lies about 1.3 miles away, and the Sutherland Trail #6 mountain biking route is about 1.4 miles off. Climbers can find The Ravelin about 2.5 miles away, and Spencer Canyon campground is about 6 miles out.
