The Interstate is a hard, out-and-back hike on natural trail in Arizona's Coconino National Forest, within the Flagstaff Ranger District. The route is about 21 miles long, with a one-way elevation gain of 436 feet, taking the hiker from a low of about 6,580 feet to a high of about 7,079 feet. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Mund's Park show May highs around 69°F and September highs around 76°F, while August brings the most wet days at about 13. That station sits roughly 600 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the upper stretch run cooler. The trail starts close to other outings. Frog Tank Loop, a mountain biking route, is about 0.3 miles away, and the Willard hike is about 0.4 miles off. For climbing, The Waterfall is about 4.6 miles away, and Manzanita Campground is about 4.9 miles away.
