Moonshine Trail is a short, easy out-and-back hike in Lake Guntersville State Park in Alabama, managed by State Park and Recreation. The trail is about 1.5 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 487 feet, and it starts at roughly 846 feet, reaching a high point of 870 feet before returning to the starting level. The climb is rolling, and the steepest stretch comes at about 0.58 miles in, with a grade of 15 percent. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show October highs around 73°F with lows near 53°F, and April is similar at about 72°F by day and 50°F at night. That station sits about 275 feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the trail run a little cooler. The hike takes about half an hour. Butler Pass Trail and Firebreak Road both start within a tenth of a mile, and Cave Trail is about 0.3 miles away. Climbers can find Guntersville Roof about 1.2 miles off.
